Patrick M.
Private tutor in Decatur, GA
Education
MFA Creative Writing and Literature from Emerson College 1999 (3.85 GPA while working full-time to pay for my education), BA Political Science from University of Washington, 1991 (2.9 GPA while working full-time to pay for my own education). I was a roaming major in undergrad, which means I have just about enough credits in philosophy, sociology, and criminal justice to have minors in all three.
Experience
Guest Lecturer in the Department of Communications at Georgia State University's Film Department, teaching writing and theory. College Adjunct Professor at Massachusetts Communications College in English, Beginning and Advanced Composition (with a focus on literature), and Creative Writing; Reader/Analyst for Major and Mini-major Film Studios, breaking down scripts and advising on their cinematic potential; Private essay/paper tutor including Santa Monica College students; Class creator and instructor for Newton Public Schools After School Writing Program. I have been teaching/coaching/tutoring for over fifteen years now and enjoy working with students to "crack" the components of writing and unlock the process in a way that transcends individual assignments and provides the students with the tools they need to write in ANY class for ANY subject. I have been working as a writer for almost twenty years and have researched and written about a wide range of topics, from quantum physics to the Civil War. I was the recipient of a prestigious writing fellowship with Warner Brothers Studios, write marketing and advertising content for Fortune 500 companies, and can break down any style of writing for any purpose. I expect my tutored students to receive A's and even expect my students that receive only limited instruction to get at least a B on any assignment. I achieved a perfect score on the AP calculus exam as a senior in high school, scored a 29 (out of 34 at the time) on the ACT and an 1200 (out of 1600 at the time) on the SAT.
