Daniel P.
Private tutor in Decatur, GA
Education
I graduated from Swarthmore College with High Honors in Physics and Philosophy (I was a double major) in 2008. I then received my PhD in Philosophy from the University of Michigan in 2013. My dissertation was in the Philosophy of Physics and concerned the nature of time in quantum mechanics and special relativity.
Experience
I have been a tutor since high school when I informally began tutoring a few students in my physics class and, by the end of the semester, had as many as fifteen or sixteen students from my small physics class showing up for help before every physics exam. I was a physics and logic TA in college. In graduate school, in addition to serving as a TA for numerous philosophy classes, I served as a volunteer tutor for high school students at 826Michigan, a local education-focused non-profit. Since receiving my PhD, I have taught philosophy at the post-secondary level at Berry College and Georgia Highlands College. I love tutoring because it gives me the chance to return to what brought me to education in the first place: the opportunity to work with a student one-on-one to help them move from frustration with a subject to a deep, full appreciation and understanding of that subject.

Hobbies
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and playing board and card games with my amazing wife. I also love both reading and writing fiction, especially science fiction and fantasy novels. And, while I'm not sure this qualifies as a hobby, I enjoy cooking foods of all sorts, especially Indian and Thai cuisine, though I'm still not very good at it.
